Welcoming Socrates Fernandes to Aramtec! Socrates joins our sales team based in Auckland as our new sales & design engineer. For the past few months he has been getting his hands dirty (inside gloves) alongside the fabrication team in New Plymouth and on site in Auckland with our chemical engineer Bryan Holyoake. The aim; hands on practical knowledge of fibreglass solutions.

This practical induction complements Socrates existing skill set. He brings real life experience of the sewer network and consequences if something goes wrong. As Pump Station Supervisor for Downer, running & maintaining pump stations including large transmission stations, he developed an appreciation of the challenges water professionals face on a daily basis. This experience provides a solid platform that has grown his drive to help solve difficult challenges with innovative engineering. Socrates is passionate about addressing these challenges and providing effective long lasting solutions. To him science and engineering are tools to help integrate communities with their environment, and sustainably utilize its resources while managing pollution.

In complement to his engineering skills, Socrates brings a wealth of experience of living and working within different cultural worldviews. Originally from India, Socrates moved to New Zealand with his family as a 6 year old, spent his teenage years in South Korea alongside his fathers work and after completing his Chemical Engineering degree at Auckland University, spent a year traveling India and the Middle East while completing an internship in Dubai.
While being named after a famous soccer player has it's talking point, Socrates prefers to keep fit with Martial Arts and hiking to enjoy the great outdoors. At night time you will most likely catch him having a drink or a meal with family and friends, so don't hesitate to say hi!
Based at our Auckland sales office, Socrates joins our team so that Shane Pope has the opportunity to be closer to our European and Middle Eastern customers (more on that here).
